Life With Autism: In their Own words!Sam Wessels♥

This video published on CNN as part of their autism awareness series this month, features kids on the autism spectrum, talking about what is like to have autism. At first glance if you are a cynic like me, you might think.....____Ahhhh, not another fluff piece!!

Not so fast! One of the kids in the video is a really special little boy, because he couldn't always communicate and in fact didn't answer to his name, couldn't sleep through the night, etc. His name is Sam Wessels and he is the one with red hair, who appears twice in the vídeo. His mom and dad worked very hard to get him where he is at today and we should all be proud of them and of Sam who can now give a voice to those kids who don't a voice, other then through their parents.

The video is all positive, which can be disheartening to parents with children on the severe side of the spectrum, but remember that we don't know the story behind each person on that video, as is the case with Sam. If you didn't know his history, you would think he was always like you see in the video, but he worked very hard to get to this point. Recovery is different for everyone and it's important to understand that, so lets give a round of applause to Sam, because he earned it!♥

World Autism Day: Light it Up Black and Blue? - AGE OF AUTISM

Today was a day filled with fluff pieces about autism, but I have nothing to celebrate. Lets face it....autism sucks any way you look at it.

Kim Stagliano from Age of Autism says it all. Today is April 2nd. Some are celebrating Autism Awareness Day. I am not. To me, today is like Good Friday and Yom Kippur - somber days of reflection. World Autism Day: Light it Up Black and Blue? - AGE OF AUTISM:

WSET.com - ABC13 - Family of Autistic Boy Alleges Abuse, Seeks $20 M From School Sy

WSET.com - ABC13 - Family of Autistic Boy Alleges Abuse, Seeks $20 M From School Sy: Thomas Kilpatrick, 47, is accusing the two women of physically abusing his 12-year-old autistic son on his way to the Laurel Regional Special Education Center, a special needs school in Lynchburg.
Lawyers for the family say that boy is still suffering from permanent emotional damage more than two years later. Their most compelling evidence is an hour and a half worth of surveillance video from the school bus. They say it captures the autistic boy being hit, kicked and even choked by the former school employees. (You can watch the video to the right.)

First Boy Diagnosed with Autism by Dr. Kanner, Recovered!!

The first boy diagnosed by Dr. Leo Kanner with Autism in 1943, has been found alive and well. He grew up to live a happy, successful life. He is 77 and lives in Mississippi. John Donvan and Caren Zucker tracked him down for an article in The Atlantic on adults with autism.

Donald Triplett has been known in medical literature as Donald T. Patient zero. He was treated with Gold Salts when as a child he developed Arthritis. He got better, but he also began to recover from Autism.

As it turns out he had been exposed to Mercury. Kanner's patient zero lived in an area where a water soluble form of Mercury was first used in forestry! Dr. Kanner didn't document this treatment and would have gone unnoticed if not for the fact that Donald is alive well. He was interviewed by the author of the book "Age of Autism", on sale now. I know Amazon.com carries it.

Chapter 6 is where you will find Donald Triplett, who decided to come out of his self-imposed anonymity to be interviewed in May of 2009 by Olmsted and Blaxill to expand on the public understanding of his story for the book.

We have been right all along and justice for our poisoned children is long over due.
